Here at Around the Pound, there’s nothing we love more than a well-designed tote to carry our precious cargo. So, when the opportunity arose for us to collaborate with APOLIS on our very own market bag, (coincidentally made out of 100% Golden Jute), we knew it was a perfect match. We fell head-over-heels for APOLIS after a visit to their Common Gallery in sunny California, and the rest they say is well, history.

APOLIS (a-pöl-is), meaning ‘global citizen’, is a Los Angeles based lifestyle brand that strives to bridge commerce and economic development worldwide. As part of their Bangladesh Project, our Golden Market Tote has played a role in providing employment for women within the tiny South Asian country, an initiative we’re extremely proud to be a part of.

We partnered with our favorite creative team at Stitch Design Co. to design a logo that would capture the essence of The Gilded Lobster, while allowing the craftsmanship and natural details of the tote to shine through. As always, the result of their work is the gold standard in our book.

Head over to our shoppe, The Captain’s Catch, for more details and to order your very own, guaranteed by our Captain to ensure you always ‘Bring Home the Gold’.

Sometimes, the best getaways are right around the corner; proof that one need not venture far to fulfill his/her travel appetite. We recently jumped at the opportunity to spend a weekend in Brooklyn and expand our travel résumé to this hip up and coming borough. Just a stone’s throw across the river from its more well-known sibling, Brooklyn is chock full of some of the most noteworthy eateries, shoppes and tucked away gems we’ve uncovered in our journeys.

Outside, snow is blanketing New England, yet again. Inside however, we’re daydreaming about warmer months ahead. In an all-consuming effort to fast forward to balmy eves and roadside picnics, we’re turning to one of our favorite editorials to transport us there, slightly ahead of schedule.

Styled by Kate Harrowsmith and captured by Connie Bond, we’re simply smitten with this dynamic duo. So pack your bags, grab your best pal, and head for the hills. Oh, and don’t even get us started on that perfectly petite Fiat.

All photos by Connie Bond for Marie Claire Australia.

Leprechauns aren’t the only individuals with a knack for discovering a pot of gold. The Captain’s back, and he’s got quite the catch. While we work to get this treasure off the dock and into the shoppetune in for updates on the arrival of this very golden collaboration.

Watch out cliche cupcakes and designer donuts, there’s a new sheriff in town, and his name is churros. We cherish things that make our heart skip a beat Around the Pound, including sweet indulgences, an entrepreneur pursuing his/her dream, and a passion for detail, especially design details. Hence, you can imagine our excitement when Lorca opened its doors in our coastal enclave earlier this year.

The creation of Leyla Dam, an architect by trade, dessert-lover at heart, Lorca proves that culinary talent and design aesthetics can go hand-in-hand. Designing the space herself, Leyla left no surface untouched by her discerning eye. From the Marrakech Dandelion tiles she imported from Spain to accentuate the countertops, to the brass chandelier she designed and had custom built for the lofty interior, we’re simply as smitten with the space as the showcased menu offerings.

Whether you choose your Handsome Coffee Roasters coffee in the form of a single-origin pour-over, or a creamy latte beautifully crafted by a talented barista, be certain to order a side of churros. Leyla, who was born in Spain and grew up in Fairfield County, returned to Seville in pursuit of crafting a perfectly fried treat in honor of her European heritage. Made-to-order, and served with your choice of dipping sauce (we highly recommend the dulce de leche), Lorca’s churros are the perfect complement to the best cup ‘o joe we’ve scouted north of the Big Apple.

Next time you’re in the area, stop by and say hello; we’re certain Leyla would love to have you.
